The kochon kreyol has a special history with haiti. The US tried to remove it completely from Haiti. African Swine Fever became a concern although many say their pigs were not infected. The eradication of the kochon kreyol destroyed the economy created by Haitian peasants/farmers to support their families. The US tried to replace it with Pink Pigs called Koshon blanch or Koshon Grimel and they did not like the pigs because the pigs could not handle the conditions that the kochon kreyol could thrive in. It was a lose lose situation. A different version of the koshon kreyol was introduced and it soon became interbred with the Koshon blanch and has since repopulated Haiti. However, the period of dechoukaj after Duvalier was ousted made things even worse in Haiti because many Vodouwizants were persecuted and killed during this time.
